Orion EOC v1.3 SP1 is incompatible with Orion NPM v10.3 on Windows Server 2003 running IIS v6
Issue:
Due to a known application pool sharing issue, Orion Enterprise Operations Console (EOC) version 1.3 Service Pack 1 will not function when installed with Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM) version 10.3 on servers running Windows Server 2003 with Internet Information Services version 6 (IIS6). Under IIS6, EOC and NPM web consoles share the Default Application Pool, resulting in conflicts that prevent the proper functioning of Orion EOC after NPM version 10.3 is installed.
Resolution:
The solution to this issue is to create a new application pool for the Orion EOC website, as indicated in the following procedure.
To create a dedicated application pool for Orion NPM in IIS6:
- Log on to your SolarWinds server (Windows Server 2003) using an account with adminstrative privileges.
- Click Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Click + to expand Internet Information Services > ServerName (local computer).
- Right-click Application Pools, and then click New > Application Pool.
- Provide an appropriate Application pool ID (e.g.
SolarWindsOrionApplicationPool), and then select Use existing application pool as template.
- Confirm that DefaultAppPool is selected as the Application pool name, and then click OK.
- In the left pane, click + to expand Internet Information Services > ServerName (local computer) > Web Sites.
- Right-click SolarWinds NetPerfMon, and then click Properties.
- On the Home Directory tab, select the newly created application pool in the Application pool field at the bottom of the window, and then click OK.
This article applies to installations where Orion NPM 10.3 and Orion EOC 1.3 SP1 are both installed on the same computer running Windows Server 2003 with IIS6.
