Formerly titled: "Can I install my Orion server or Additional Polling Engine and my Orion database (SQL Server) in different locations across a WAN?"
Due to potential latency effects, SolarWinds does not recommend installing your SQL Server and your Orion server or Additional Polling Engines in different locations across a WAN. Though it is possible to deploy your Orion server and Additional Polling Engines in such a way that they connect across a WAN to your Orion database, SolarWinds can not guarantee that your circuit can meet the I/O specifications (i.e. bandwidth, speed, and latency) Orion NPM requires to function properly. In most cases, QoS or a dedicated circuit will be required specifically for this traffic between your Orion server and the database. If distributed deployment is a requirement, SolarWinds recommends an installation of the Orion Enterprise Operations Console (EOC) with multiple Orion instances at each distinct location across your WAN. For more information about Orion EOC, see Orion EOC at solarwinds.com.
